NEW YORK, May 26, 2012—Are you running the ING New York City Marathon on Nov. 4? Do you live in one of New York City’s five boroughs? You could be a part of the Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge, a race within a race at the ING New York City Marathon.

Five runners—one from each of New York City’s boroughs of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island—run together for the first half of the race, and then face off against each other in the second.

This year, Foot Locker is looking for team members who have used running to overcome significant challenges in their lives.

The runners selected for the challenge will be VIPs for the race. The Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge has its own start time and will be featured on the WABC television broadcast. The winner of the challenge gets to take home a Tiffany & Co. trophy as the 2012 Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge Champion.

To qualify for the Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge, you must:

1) Be an accepted entrant in the 2012 ING New York City Marathon
2) Currently reside in one of New York City’s five boroughs: Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, or Staten Island
3) Be able to complete the marathon between 3:30 and 4:00 hours

Responsibilities of team members include:

1) Committing to running the first 13.1 miles of the marathon with the Challenge Team (after that, you’re free to run alone or stay with the group)
2) Availability at select times during Marathon Week to participate in a pre-race media event
3) Availability for pre-race promotional opportunities including group runs (dates to be determined)

To apply, visit the challenge page at www.nycmarathon.org. Applications will be accepted through June 18, 2012.
